GENESEE GROUP FITNESS CLASSES
Y group fitness programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in Y programs offers youth and adults opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities. The Y has land and water based classes for people of all ages, abilities and interests. Consider becoming a part of the Y’s “Group X” family!
Below you will find a list of the group exercise classes offered at the YMCA along with a link at the bottom to the current class schedule.
CARDIO
- Cycling An instructor-lead cycling workout that will guide you up hills, through trails and racing over a flat road. Give it a try!
- Family Fitness A work-out for the whole family! Fun fitness exercises and challenges that help bond family while getting fit together!
- Tae-Box Plus Non-contact martial arts based fitness class combining upper and lower body strengthening through combinations of punches and kicks along with resistance training. May also include some extra new surprise exercises!
- ZUMBA® A fusion of Latin and international music themes that create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness workout. A combination of fast and slow rhythms tone and sculpt the body and burn calories the fun way!
- ZUMBA Gold® is for the active older adult, but all are welcome!
INTERVAL
- Ageless Fitness Multi-level exercise that includes a variety of exercises and equipment. Must bring a sense of humor for fun and laughs.
- Interval/Sculpt Varying cardio levels helps you burn the most calories! This class will burn your weekend calories and give you strong muscles!
- Power Combo This class will involve intervals of stepping, strength, agility and kickboxing. The main focus is to enhance your cardiovascular system with cross-training intervals to work your entire body.
MIND/BODY
- Pilates It is a series of exercises, performed in specific sequence, which were designed to help individuals strengthen and stretch their bodies, regain correct movement and improve posture, increase mind-body awareness along with providing balance and flexibility. These exercises focus on the powerhouse front and back abdominal.
- Tai Chi Moving meditation with far reaching benefits. The slow, soft movements have a real effect on blood pressure, weight control and other physical aspects.
- Yoga Stretch Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
STRENGTH
- Athletic Aesthetics A class designed for a head to toe workout. You move and challenge yourself at your own pace with new exercises you may not have tried or seen before!
- Body Sculpting Exercise designed to focus on both muscles and bones. Classes may include toning, firming and flexibility, performed with or without weights/resistance, for the purpose of improving muscular strength and endurance.
- Silver Sneakers® Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
